Boarding and Residential Academies

A boarding academy is not just a soccer decision. It is a full-life decision. Parents are not simply choosing a team. They are choosing where the child may live, study, train, eat, recover, socialize, and be supervised. That requires serious due diligence. A residential program may offer: Daily training Schooling Housing Meals Strength and conditioning Games Showcases College support Professional pathway language International players Structured lifestyle It may also create: Homesickness Academic disruption Social isolation High cost Injury complications Emotional stress Reduced family oversight Dependence on program staff Limited exit options Parents need to inspect every part. Academic Due Diligence Ask: Is the school accredited? What curriculum is used? Are credits transferable? Are NCAA eligibility requirements considered where relevant? How are grades monitored? What academic support exists? Who communicates with parents? What happens if the player struggles? What colleges accept graduates? What is the graduation rate? Do not accept “we have academics” as an answer. The academic plan must be real. Residential Due Diligence Ask: Where do players live? Who supervises them? What are the staff-to-player ratios? What are the curfews? How are conflicts handled? What are the rules around phones, visitors, travel, and weekends? How is homesickness managed? What is the food quality? How are parents updated? What is the discipline process? A residential program takes over daily supervision. That requires trust backed by structure. Medical and Mental Health Due Diligence Ask: Is there an athletic trainer? Is there medical access? What is the concussion protocol? Who handles injury communication?
