Module 9: High School, Academy, Boarding, and Overseas Decisions
Lesson Body Draft Module 9 — High School, Academy, Boarding, and Overseas Decisions Module Promise Some soccer decisions are bigger than soccer.
High school soccer affects school identity, social life, leadership, workload, injury risk, and sometimes club conflict.
Academy soccer affects training environment, competition, travel, player role, selection pressure, high school eligibility, and long-term pathway decisions.
Boarding academies affect the entire child: school, housing, supervision, food, medical care, emotional maturity, family separation, safety, and exit options.
Overseas programs affect travel, immigration, registration, agents, contracts, schooling, medical care, and sometimes eligibility.
These are not casual decisions.
Parents often get seduced by the size of the opportunity. They hear “academy,” “residential,” “Europe,” “professional environment,” “trial,” “pathway,” or “exposure,” and they stop asking basic questions.
That is reckless.
A bigger environment is not automatically a better environment.
A serious opportunity can help the right player at the right time. It can also damage a player who is not ready, not protected, not properly evaluated, or not clear on the tradeoffs.
This module teaches parents how to evaluate major soccer environments. The rule:
The bigger the decision, the heavier the due diligence.
