ID Camps and Showcases

ID camps and showcases can be useful. They can also be expensive mistakes. Parents must stop treating camps like scratch-off tickets. An ID camp is valuable when the player is realistic for the school, the staff is present, the format allows evaluation, and there is some connection or strategic reason for attending. A camp is weak when the family is buying a logo. When an ID Camp Makes Sense An ID camp may make sense when: The school is academically realistic. The school is financially realistic. The player fits the soccer level. The coach has responded or shown interest. The camp is run by the actual staff. The player can be seen in meaningful settings. The family has a follow-up plan. The event fits the recruiting timeline. When an ID Camp Is a Waste An ID camp may be a waste when: The school is unrealistic academically. The player does not fit the soccer level. The family cannot afford the school. The player has had no coach communication. The camp is overcrowded. The staff will not meaningfully evaluate the player. The player is injured or overloaded. The family is chasing prestige. Showcase Events Showcases can help when the player is in the right event, at the right level, with the right schedule, and has communicated with coaches ahead of time. A showcase without outreach is passive. Do not assume coaches will randomly find the player.
