Total Load: The Body Counts Everything

Training load is not just soccer. Most parents think load means: Club practice Games Private training Strength training That is incomplete. Total load includes: Club training Private training Games Tournaments Strength and conditioning Speed work School Homework Travel Sleep Nutrition Growth spurts Emotional stress Social pressure Family pressure Injuries Recovery Weather Surface changes Mental fatigue The body does not separate these neatly. A player who sits in a car for four hours, plays two games, eats fast food, sleeps poorly in a hotel, and then returns to school Monday morning is carrying load. A player who has exams, social stress, and a club conflict is carrying load. A player going through a growth spurt is carrying load. A player returning from injury is carrying load. Parents who ignore total load make bad decisions. They add sessions when the player needs recovery.They call fatigue laziness. They call pain weakness.They blame performance when the schedule is the problem.They push another showcase when the player needs sleep.They buy more private training when the player needs a lighter week. That is not high performance. That is poor management. Load Is Not Bad Load is not the enemy. Players need load to adapt. They need challenge. They need stress. They need competition. They need repetition. The issue is not whether the player works. The issue is whether the work is appropriate, recoverable, and connected to a purpose. Training creates stress.Recovery creates adaptation. If there is stress without recovery, the player does not get better.
