But they know which parents are stable, which parents are helpful, which parents create pressure, which parents gossip, which parents lobby, which parents make excuses, and which parents are going to become a problem the first time the player does not start. That matters. It may not feel fair. But it is real. A coach may love the player and dread the parent.A coach may believe in the player and avoid communication because the parent makes every conversation exhausting.A coach may see potential in the player but worry the parent will not tolerate the development process.A coach may trust a player more because the family supports accountability.A coach may distrust a player environment because the parent constantly undermines the staff. Parents should expect professionalism. Parents should leave bad environments. Parents should challenge unsafe or dishonest behavior. But there is a difference between being a serious parent and being a problem parent. A serious parent asks clear development questions.A problem parent demands emotional reassurance.
