The Annual Family Soccer Meeting

Every family should hold one annual soccer meeting. Not in the car. Not after a loss. Not during tryouts. Not when everyone is angry. Schedule it. Sit down. Bring the workbook. Talk like adults. The player should be involved, especially as they get older. 1. Player Reflection. Ask the player: - What did you enjoy this year? - What was hard? - What did you improve? - What do you want next year? - What do you not want? - How serious do you want soccer to be? - What support do you want from us? Do not interrupt. 2. Parent Reflection. Parents should answer: - What worked for the family? - What created stress? - What was worth the money? - What was not worth it? - Where did we overreact? - Where did we avoid hard decisions? - What do we need to change? 3. Environment Review. Review: - Club - Coach - League - Role - Training - Competition - Culture - Cost - Travel - Outcomes 4. Academic Review. Review: - Grades - Workload - Study habits - School stress - College requirements, if relevant 5. Health Review. Review: - Injuries - Sleep - Recovery - Burnout signs - Strength needs - Medical support 6. Budget Review. Review all-in cost. Ask: - Was it worth it? - What should we cut? - What should we protect? - What is next year's maximum budget? **7.
