Girls Pathway: Do Not Copy the Boys Model
The girls pathway is not the boys pathway with different uniforms. Parents must understand that. The boys side has a more visible MLS academy and MLS NEXT structure connected to professional clubs. The girls side has a different ecosystem built heavily around elite clubs, college recruiting, ECNL Girls, Girls Academy, regional platforms, high school soccer in some markets, USL W League, WPSL, NWSL opportunities, overseas opportunities, and an evolving professional landscape. Do not force the girls pathway into the boys MLS model. That mistake creates bad decisions. A girl may be in an excellent ECNL environment.A girl may be in an excellent Girls Academy environment.A girl may be in a strong regional platform.A girl may benefit from high school soccer.A girl may be best served by a club that is less famous but gives her minutes, coaching, and recruiting support.A girl may need a college-first pathway.A girl may eventually explore WPSL, USL W League, NWSL-related opportunities, or overseas options. The parent’s job is not to ask, “What is the girls version of MLS academy?” The parent’s job is to ask: “What environment gives my daughter the best combination of development, competition, exposure, health, academics, and realistic next- step opportunity?” ECNL Girls and Girls Academy ECNL Girls and Girls Academy are major youth platforms. Both can provide strong competition and college recruiting exposure. But the badge is still not enough.
