The Local Market Audit
Parents need to map their actual market.
Not the national conversation. Not what someone in another state says. Not what a social media account says. Not what the loudest parent says.
Their actual local market.
A local market audit answers:
What clubs are realistically available?
What leagues do they play in?
What age groups do they offer?
Who are the coaches?
What is the cost?
What is the travel?
What is the roster size?
What is the player’s likely role?
What are the outcomes? What is the culture?
What is the workload?
What is the exit option?
This gives parents leverage.
Without a market audit, parents make emotional comparisons.
With a market audit, parents can see tradeoffs.
Example Club A:
Famous badge
National league
$7,500 total annual cost
22-player roster
Player likely roster player, not starter
Heavy travel
Strong exposure
Limited feedback
High school conflict
Club B:
Less famous badge
Strong regional league
$3,800 total annual cost
16-player roster Player likely starter
Strong coach
Less travel
Good school balance
Clear feedback
Which is better?
The answer depends on the player.
If the player needs exposure and can compete for minutes, Club A may make sense.
If the player needs development, confidence, and meaningful game role, Club B may be better.
Parents cannot know without the audit.
The Local Market Rule Never choose a club in isolation.
Choose it against the available alternatives.
That is how serious decisions are made.
